The first school swimming pool of its size in Islampur
Mount Litera Zee School, Islampur is building an indoor, half-Olympic-size swimming pool on campus, with a separate shallow baby pool for the youngest swimmers. The pool hall has a roof, so swimming classes can run in the monsoon and in winter, not only on hot days. Construction is in its final stages; the tiling of both pools is done and the roof structure is up.
When it opens, swimming will join football, cricket, archery, table tennis and kickboxing as a coached sport for MLZS students, with separate sessions for beginners and regular swimmers and trained supervision at every session.
What is being built
Half-Olympic main pool
A 25-metre-class indoor pool for lap swimming, learn-to-swim classes and school competitions, with lane space for a whole class at a time.
Baby pool
A separate shallow pool where Nursery to primary children learn water confidence safely, close to the main pool but apart from it.
Indoor hall
A roofed, enclosed hall with changing rooms, so classes continue in rain and cold and the water stays clean.
Coaching
Swimming coaching for beginners and regular swimmers, in groups by age and ability, as part of the school’s sports programme.
Safety
Trained supervision at every session, a shallow learners’ pool, and the school infirmary with a nurse on the same campus.

Why we are building a pool in Islampur
Swimming is the one sport that is also a life skill. North Bengal has rivers, ponds and a long monsoon, yet very few children here learn to swim properly because there is no safe, supervised pool nearby. Parents in Islampur, Kishanganj and the surrounding blocks have had to travel to Siliguri for swimming classes, which is not practical for a school child.
A pool inside the school changes that. A child can have a swimming class in the afternoon and be back in the hostel or on the school bus without any extra travel, and parents know who is supervising.

When will the swimming pool open, and who can use it?
The indoor half-Olympic-size pool and the baby pool are in the final stages of construction; it opens after completion and safety checks, and the admissions team can give you the latest date. It is for MLZS students, day scholars and hostel students, with coaching for beginners and regular swimmers under trained supervision. See the swimming pool.
What facilities does the school have?
Smart classrooms, an air-conditioned library with e-library facility, separate physics, chemistry and biology labs plus a composite science lab, a maths lab and an air-conditioned computer lab, an air-conditioned hostel for boys and girls, football and cricket fields, a badminton court, basketball and volleyball courts, an archery range and table-tennis tables, an indoor hall for chess and carom, a half-Olympic-size swimming pool under construction, an infirmary with a trained nurse, and school buses. What sports and activities are available?
Coaching by trained coaches in football, cricket, archery, table tennis and kickboxing (self-defence), yoga every morning, a Scouts and Guides unit, badminton on our own court, kho-kho, and music, dance and art, along with clubs, four school houses, events, field trips and excursions. How safe is the campus?
The campus has round-the-clock security and CCTV surveillance. Identity cards are issued to students and parents, staff and students have biometric attendance, every bus route has an attendant and a bus in-charge teacher, buses have speed governors, and each building has a fire-fighting system.
Is hostel facility available?
Yes. Zee Home, the school’s air-conditioned hostel, has separate hostels for boys and girls, 24×7 warden supervision, CCTV in common areas, healthy meals four times a day, supervised study hours, and after-school coaching in football, cricket, archery, table tennis, kickboxing and yoga. Students come from Islampur, from across North Bengal and from Bihar (Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea and Katihar). Please ask the admissions team which classes have hostel seats. Details: AC hostel.
